Patterns of Diphthong Adaptation within English Loanwords in Iraqi Arabic

This study investigates the phonological adaptation of diphthongs within English loanwords in Iraqi Arabic (IA). In contrast to earlier small-scale descriptive studies, this used quantitative content analysis analyse 346 established collected through document review and direct observation determine diphthong patterns involved nativisation by native speakers IA. C ontent results revealed that most GB adaptations IA occur systematic thus may be ascribed particular aspects both L1 L2 systems. More specifically, indicate output forms tend maintain features input greatest extent possible either replacing with vowel-plus-glide sequences or reducing them single vowels.
